# IOCE open commons — IOCE Core Ontology v0.1

A provisional, machine-readable, openly licensed representation of the concepts published on the
**IOCE Atlas** (https://ioce.alkhemy.com). IOCE stands for *Isocratic Ownership-Control Equilibrium*.

> **v0.1 is not complete and not final.** It records what the public IOCE material says, marks every
> item with its epistemic status, and links each item to its source. It is open to criticism,
> correction, translation, independent analysis and competing interpretations.

## What is here

| Path (public URL) | What it is | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| `/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.json` | **Canonical** ontology in plain JSON: terms, properties, assertions and the status vocabulary | CC0 structure + CC BY quotes |
| `/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.jsonld` | The same content as JSON-LD (SKOS, OWL, Dublin Core, PROV-O) | CC0 structure + CC BY quotes |
| `/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.ttl` | The same graph as RDF Turtle | CC0 structure + CC BY quotes |
| `/ontology/ioce-terms-v0.1.json`, `/ontology/ioce-relations-v0.1.json` | Terms only, and relations only | as above |
| `/ontology/` | Human-readable list of every term | CC BY 4.0 |
| `/schemas/ioce-schema-v0.1.json` | JSON Schema (2020-12) for the canonical JSON | CC0 |
| `/provenance/sources-v0.1.json` | Every source cited, with its original licence | CC0 |
| `/provenance/provenance-v0.1.json` | One provenance record per term, property and assertion | CC0 |
| `/ontology/examples/example-record-v0.1.json` | IOCE's own worked OCDI examples as records | CC0 |
| `/ai/` | Guide for people and for AI systems | CC BY 4.0 |
| `/ioce-commons/` | This README, licence texts and the licence manifest | — |

In the repository, `site/` is generated by `tools/build_commons.py` from `tools/ontology_data.py`.
Do not edit `site/` by hand.

## Inspect and retrieve
Everything is a plain HTTPS GET. No account, API key or proprietary service is needed.

```sh
curl -s https://ioce.alkhemy.com/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.json | jq '.terms[] | {notation, status, definition}'
curl -s -H 'Accept: application/ld+json' https://ioce.alkhemy.com/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.jsonld
```

```python
import json, urllib.request
core = json.load(urllib.request.urlopen("https://ioce.alkhemy.com/ontology/ioce-core-v0.1.json"))
documented = [t for t in core["terms"] if t["status"] == "documented"]
```

## Epistemic status (on every term, property and assertion)

| status | classification | meaning |
|---|---|---|
| `documented` | ESTABLISHED | explicitly present in public IOCE material; `definition`/`evidenceQuote` is verbatim |
| `inferred` | INFERRED | derivable from IOCE material but not stated as such |
| `proposed` | PROPOSED | introduced for machine readability in v0.1; not an IOCE claim |
| `externally-sourced` | EXTERNAL | defined by a third party and cited by IOCE |
| `unknown` | UNKNOWN | the label appears publicly; its meaning is not defined |

Recorded discrepancies are deliberately **not** resolved in v0.1. For example, OCDI as published ranges over [0, 2]
while OCDI-Gov halves the sum and ranges over [0, 1]. See each term's `rangeNote` and `notes`.

## Provenance and external data
See [`PROVENANCE.md`](PROVENANCE.md). In short, the commons package contains **no third-party entity data**.
Entity records and OCDI scores stay in the existing IOCE API (`https://ioce.alkhemy.com/api/`) under their original
source terms, and API availability is not a grant of redistribution rights.

## Reuse
- **Code** (`tools/`): Apache-2.0 ([`LICENSE-CODE`](LICENSE-CODE), [`NOTICE`](NOTICE)).
- **Ontology structure**: CC0 1.0 ([`LICENSE-DATA`](LICENSE-DATA)).
- **IOCE text and this documentation**: CC BY 4.0 ([`LICENSE-DOCS`](LICENSE-DOCS)). Attribute to *IOCE Atlas, https://ioce.alkhemy.com*.
- Full manifest: [`LICENSES.md`](LICENSES.md) / [`licenses.json`](licenses.json).

Mirroring is welcome. Keep the version number in file names, keep `provenance/` with the ontology, and link back to the
canonical URLs.
